Teething Times

I want to know, does teething ever end?? And, how many symptoms can you blame on it?? Cooper is in teeth cutting mode apparently. We have gone almost a week with "abnormal fussiness" as my Tuesday night babysitter, Sydni, would say. It seems that nothing I do makes him happy, I just thank God for Tylenol, Motrin, and Orajel!! But I just want to cry when he does, because I can't make it better for him. The only thing that seems to calm him down and keep him from hyperventilating is going outside and sitting on the porch swing for a few minutes, go figure. He has a little diarrhea and not much appetite, not to mention the drool. The bright side is, he's been sleeping like a log, probably from all the energy exerted from crying most of the day. Needless to say, I actually laid down for an afternoon cat nap when he did because I was drained from being clawed and cried on half the day, teething is exhausting for all involved! He only has 4 teeth showing so far and they came in two at a time, both times it was a little extra fuss for a week and then they cut through and he was fine, so hopefully this time will be only a week, too!
Now, don't get me wrong, he has a little bit of happy time during the day. Last night, for example, he was purposely feeding the dog his goldfish crackers and giggling like crazy (so was I, it was pretty funny).
Those of you who have been through this recently can appreciate I'm sure and those of you that haven't done it for a while, may be having horrible flash backs! Oh, the joys of parenthood!

Well, I definitely know what you are going through. If it makes you feel better, Grace is cutting all FOUR canine teeth right now. They all poked through on the same day. Talk about fun...

The dr's will say that cutting teeth does NOT cause diarrhea nor a fever but in my expert opinion, (notice I didn't say DOCTORATE opinion) symptoms of teething are low-grade fever, runny nose, diarrhea, moodiness, unconsolable crying, and an earache (your teeth/mouth are connected to the nasal canals AND the ear canals btw in case you didn't know. I am an expert at ears, too.)

Please make sure you alternate Tylenol & Motrin every 4 hours, even if he SEEMS better. Trust me, he will THANK you for it!!! Also, if he is stuffy or has a runny nose, you can give him a SMALL dose of benedryl to help the drainage & to help him sleep.

Cutting 2 teeth instead of 1 at a time, means double of EVERYTHING, but mostly pain. Make sure that you either have a teething toy he loves or a wet rag in the freezer for him to chew on. In my experience, those star toys at Wal Mart that vibrate when baby/toddler bites on them are WELL WORTH the cost. I have 4 of them for all the infants in my home and they LOVE them. Toddlers love them MORE than babies because they can recognize the vibration sensation as something "different" and focus on it more than infants do.

Morgan--
My oldest daughter cut 4 teeth EVERY time she cut teeth! It was a disasterous time with her! I literally thought it was the most horrible thing in the world other than GIVING birth to her!

Happy belated birthday, Cooper! Sorry I missed not only your original birth-day, but your recent birthday! ;-)
Sorry about his teething woes. My brother-in-law says that an old Cherokee trick is to put crawdad guts on their gums and that numbs the pain. Needless to say I've never tried that method, but if you're desperate........

OHH!!! P.S.!!:

The vibration in the Star Teethers not only help them to CUT the teeth, but massage the gums, too. It is very soothing for a baby/toddler! Hang in there! =D
