Home Cookin'

I've recently been on a kick of cooking things from scratch and using fresh, local food and I love to go to the Farmer's Market. I picked up some spaghetti squash, which I've never had before, and this is what I did with it. It was actually very tasty and I can see why it's used as "pasta" with sauce. I simply pierced it with a knife a few times and microwave steamed it, cut it in half, then took out the seeds and scraped the good stuff with a fork, added butter and parmesan cheese and voila!

This isn't cooking, but this is how Cooper "helps" in the garden

We don't have much of a garden left, just some cantaloupe and watermelon we planted late in the season and it's just now giving us fruit. We didn't do a fall garden since we plan to give a bit of an overhaul before next spring. Here's our first watermelon!

Comfort in a Quilt

My Aunt Mary passed away on the 28th and there was a beautiful memorial service for her at Inverness Village where she lived with my Grangy (her mother and my grandmother on Dad's side). I didn't attend the second service in Wichita, where she had lived for as long as I could remember, but I understand it, too was beautiful. We will all miss her so very much...she always kept us nieces and nephews in line and you could always count on her to tell you what she thought. She made some of the most gorgeous quilts you've seen! In fact, I think she was able to make every one of her siblings, their children, and grandchildren one of their own before she passed away. I remember how proud she was to give them at Christmases, even the quilting was special for each person. My favorite part of mine is that she knew how much I like pigs and had a realy pretty pattern with a pig in one corner that you can see on the back of the quilt! She bravely fought cancer for over a year, probably close to two years and we know that God has now healed her. Thank you all for cards, calls, and prayers.

Happy 2nd Birthday!!!

I know I'm a bit late...Cooper's birthday was on the 13th and the Disney "Cars" themed party was the 12th. We had so much fun! We had about 50 of our family and friends here to celebrate with us. We set up tables in the shop (that Dennis cleaned on all week) and Dennis cooked burgers and hot dogs for everyone. Cooper ended up with all kinds of toys with wheels and so much more! I don't think there is are any toys with wheels left in the state- they are all at our house! I'm exaggerating, of course, but he got a LOT of toys. We got to see family that we don't often see and Dennis and I even got presents since Mamaw decided we needed to have a suprise house-warming party at the end of the birthday party! I can't believe my baby is two! I'll have more pics soon, but here's what I have so far. Enjoy!

Hanging Around the Place

Weekend

Seriously...Cooper and Dennis were here, I just couldn't find the picture of them on the boat. We had a great weekend with friends. The kids got out every toy imaginable and had a blast with them and Cooper thought he was in heaven with some other kids to play with. It was so much fun to hang out with Shawn, Morgan, David, and Grace!

Mmmmmm....Fresh baked bread

I recently inherited a bread machine and I love it!! This is the second loaf of bread I've made since I got the machine Monday. This is milk loaf that I did from a recipe without a pre-made mix, it was so easy! And look how pretty!! Really, it doesn't take much to make me happy, huh?
